Colorado State at Alabama by the numbers: Third game’s the charm for Crimson Tide

1 Victory in nine games against SEC opponents for Colorado State. The Rams defeated LSU 17-14 on Sept. 26, 1992.

1 Victory is needed by Alabama coach Nick Saban to move into a tie for 18th place on the major-college football list with former Alabama coach Dennis Franchione. Franchione compiled a record of 213-135-2 at eight coaching stops, including Alabama during the 2001 and 2002 seasons. Saban has an on-the-field record of 212-61-1 at Toledo, Michigan State, LSU and Alabama. (Officially, Saban’s record is 207-61-1 because of sanctions imposed on the 2007 season.)

3 Previous Alabama games have featured opponents from the Mountain West Conference, including the Crimson Tide’s most recent one. Alabama defeated Fresno State 41-10 last week. The Crimson Tide also lost to Utah 31-17 in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 2, 2009, and defeated Colorado State 31-6 on Sept. 21, 2013.

3 Games have been played by Colorado State. The Rams got a one-week head start on most of the rest of the nation’s teams by beating Oregon State 58-27 on Aug. 26. Colorado State also has lost to Colorado 17-3 on Sept. 1 and beaten Abilene Christian 38-10 on Sept. 9.

LSU had a 52-game streak from Sept. 7, 2002, to Oct. 24, 2015; and Kansas State had a 39-game streak from Sept. 4, 1993, to Sept. 13, 2003.

The next-longest active streak for victories over unranked teams is 16 games, achieved by Wisconsin. The Crimson Tide hasn’t lost to an unranked team since falling to Auburn 17-10 on Nov. 24, 2007.

92 AP polls have had Alabama in the top spot, including this week’s rankings. Sixty-one of Alabama’s appearances at No. 1 have come in past 140 AP polls after the Crimson Tide made 31 appearances at No. 1 in the previous 984.

150 Consecutive AP polls have included Alabama, the longest current streak. Second on the active list is Florida State at 88 straight polls. The most recent AP poll that did not include Alabama is the final one of the 2007 season. The second-longest current streak in the SEC is 16 polls by Florida. The Crimson Tide’s streak is the eighth-longest in the poll’s history and the second-longest in SEC history. Nebraska set the record by being ranked in 348 consecutive polls from 1981 through 2002. Florida set the SEC record by being ranked in 209 consecutive polls from 1990 through 2002.

215 Consecutive games have been played without being shut out for Alabama, a school record. Alabama’s most recent shutout loss came 9-0 to Auburn on Nov. 18, 2000.

980 Passing yards have been compiled by Colorado State QB Nick Stevens, the most in the nation this season. Stevens has topped 300 passing yards in all three of the Rams’ games this season.

SEC teams posted a 9-2 record in non-conference play and South Carolina won the first league game of the year during the second week of the 2017 football season. LSU RB Derrius Guice, Alabama QB Jalen Hurt, South Carolina WR Deebo Samuel and Mississippi State NG Jeffery Simmons were among the number-makers in Week 2.
